We have scheduled a trip to Mt Peter (Warwick NY) for Sunday 2/28/10. For those who would like to attend please complete the two attached forms and return to me with payment by February 15, 2010.
For those who require rentals a seperate form will be provided under seperate cover. I would suggest that rentals be acquired prior to the trip so that we are not spending time on the day of the trip fitting equipment.
2/28 is also Carnival day at Mt. Peter so there will be many activities going on. We will also work on the Snow Sports Merit Badge for those who would like to earn this badge.
We will of course need extra parents to drive and chapperone the group. Thanks
I just want to remind everyone next Monday, February 1st, we will be having our troop meeting at the Gravity Vault. The meeting will begin at 7:30, however I suggest that everyone arrive 15 minutes early so we can organize everyone and fill out all the necessary paper work. To climb it is a cost of $10 per scout. Also, waivers will need to be filled out by parents for both the Troop and the Gravity Vault itself. This is the link for Gravity Vault Waiver: http://www.gravityvault.com/_userfiles/file/Waivers/4page%20Waiver%20for%20The%20Gravity%20Vault%202%20properties.pdf and attached is the troop’s waiver. Scouts must have their parents fill out both forms and bring $10 in order to climb. If anyone needs directions please visit this link: http://www.gravityvault.com/information_directions/ . See you then.

As many of you know, our annual Election Day Spaghetti Dinner is our single biggest fundraiser for our Troop. Jill Donato and I have been in the midst of planning this event for the last two months. Soon, you will begin to get innundated with emails asking for your help in various aspects of the dinner planning. We aplogize for this inconvenience but we need lots of help to make this event a success.
Right now, I am asking everyone to PLEASE find just ONE business to purchase a booster. Each booster is $40.00. In return for their donation, their business card will be placed on our placemats that will go to over 600 guests!!!!! Yes, last year we served over 650 dinners!! It can be your own business, a friend’s business, a restaurant that you frequent, a store that you buy from, etc……….you get the picture. This is by no means mandatory, but with over 70 scout families that can add up to a lot of extra monies that our boys and troop can use toward their events, outings, and Eagle ceremonies.
I am attaching a letter that you can print out and give to the prospective businesses. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you need any additional info.
Troop 133,
Here it is!!!! The long awaited Court of Honor for all the merit badges and advancement from over the summer. The agenda is as follows.
1. For those who are camping overnight. We can meet at Camp Glen Gray Parking lot at 10 AM.
2. We will pile our equipment together and have a truck available to drive it to the cabin.
3. The Court of Honor will take place at 12 Noon at a spot designed near the lake.
4. Be in Class “A” uniforms.
5. The Montclair Cabin is reserved for Troop 133 with tenting sites nearby.
6. Everyone who is attending should bring their own picnic lunch.
7. An orienteering course will held for the boys at 2:30 PM.
8. Those camping over night should plan a meal with their patrol for supper and breakfast the next morning.
9. A truck will be there to drive all our equipment back to the parking lot.
10. Pickup is at 10AM the next morning.
11. Even if you are not camping overnight, download and fill out the attached form so we will know what advancement we need to bring to Glen Gray.
12. All the slips can be put in my mailbox at 60 Union Ave., Upper Saddle River.

Troop 133,
Sorry for all the confusion. This has been a challenge to get everything together. I hope we can be more organized as we go forward.
1. There will be no traditional troop meeting this Monday. 2. We will be having a combination troop meeting/court of honor on October 17th at Camp Glen Gray. 3. Troop 12/Montclair Cabin has been reserved for us. 4. After I talk with the adult leaders who are going, I will have exactly how the event will be run. 5. Be on the lookout for the permission slip which I should have out by Friday.

Troop 133 ….
It is a Troop 133 tradition to assist Cub Scout Pack 175 of Ramsey, NJ with their annual pancake breakfast fund raiser. As Scoutmaster, I am requesting that as many scouts as possible volunteer to help out with cooking, set-up, clean-up, and assisting our Cub Scouts in manner possible. Please contact Mr. Pacenza, Cubmaster of Pack 175, to volunteer your time and coordinate assignments/logistics. This is a great and fun way to help and earn community service hours.
Our next board of review for rank advancement will be on Sept 15th, at 7:30 PM in the Upper Saddle River Library. Note this is a change to the date. If you intend to participate, please complete the application attached to the recent email you received and return it to Mr. Tarbutton by Sept 4th.
He needs to schedule a large number of adults to assist us with this.
For any of the new Scouts in addition to the application, you must complete all the Tenderfoot requirements, have your Handbook signed, complete a Scout Master Conference with Mr Linde, and be sure you know the Scout Oath and Law. Any adults who could be available to assist with the boards please let me know by return email. If this is not a good date for you, we will conduct Boards of Review in subsequent months, on the same date as the Committee meetings.

Scouts,
Our first troop meeting is going to be our annual burger bash on September 3rd! To keep things interesting, Mr. and Mrs. Israel have arranged for us to have it at Anona Park in USR. It will start at 6PM. Each patrol needs to bring the ingredients for your own special hamburgers and the winner will get a prize for your patrol. Bring your patrol stove. The troop will get the gas.
We need the scouts that have their life guard certification to attend so that we can use the lake. Please get back to me on who you are so that I can let the association know.

Troop 133,
I first want to let everyone know that for the 5 years I have been going to NOBE, this has been the strongest set of boys I’ve had the pleasure to be with. The completion ratio of merit badges earned was the highest I’ve seen. The first year crop of scouts were great. I’m very proud of all of you.
Here are some dates for you to start filling in your calendar for the new scout year. (Website Calendar is also updated)
September 3rd. First troop meeting at Anona Park. We will be having our burger bash. Mike Israel was nice enough to arrange for us to use the facility. The kids have a 1/2 day of school and we may start the meeting earlier. More info will follow.
October 3/4th. We will have our “Court of Honor” at Yaw Paw. This will be a combination troop meeting and campout.
November 2nd. Troop meeting. We will have our annual spaghetti dinner on Election day, Nov. 3rd.
December 7th. Troop meeting. This is our holiday party.
January 4th, 2010. Ambulance Corp troop meeting.
Troop events that the dates will be shortly decided are a fall campout and fall hike. I will also have the dates for when our committee will meet. We need parents. You will not be asked to do everything. Many hands make light work. We need adults who are willing to go to the events.

All scout parents are encouraged to inquire, especially parents of new scouts. Other board members will train you on what you need to know and do at meetings, no previous scouting experience is required. Reviews are conducted in the USR Library, usually the first Thursday of the month from 7:00 - 9:00.

Scouts and parents,
Our March 2nd meeting is to welcome new scouts. We also want to start a process of information for the older boys. At that meeting we will go over the “Path to Eagle”. It is highly recommended that at least one parent attend for those children who are looking to advance to that rank. Please keep that date free on your calendar and attend!!! Parent support is critical and the more you know the better it is for the scout. For those who are interested, we will need mentors to help these wonderful young men go through this journey.
We also have our troop meeting on February 2nd. A personal trainer will teach the basis ideas about fitness. As it’s said in the Scout Oath, a scout is “Physically Strong”.

Troop 133,
I will be running an excursion to Floodwood again this summer. The week would be from July 6th to July 12th. For those who do not know, Floodwood is a high adventure camp in up state New York. Dads are very welcome to join. If you haven’t done anything with your boy yet, this is the type of trip that is great for a father and son experience.
It has been worked out that there are different levels of adventure and independence. I can speak with authority on the trek that would fit your goals. This is the type of trip that will be the main memory of your scouting life. I also feel that the merit badges earned at this camp are of the highest quality.
The only qualification that’s required is that the scout is 13 years old by July 6th. I am sending out this notice for a general sense of interest. It is a long drive up and I’m trying to arrange for a bus to transport us. Even if your interest is only casual at this point, please let me know. I enjoyed so much that I happy to run this again.

Any scout who is already or wishes to become a Den Chief must attend Den Chief Training. The course is not offered very frequently so I would suggest this one for any one thinking about becoming a den chief next fall as well.
The requirement to become a den chief is to be 12 years old and/or a First Class Scout. Den Chief is one of the leadership positions that count towards advancement in Boy Scouts. Scouts who are not 12 years old and/or a First Class may take the class, they just cannot be appointed Den Chief until they are 12 years old and/or a First Class.
Please save the date and let me know if you are interested. More information will be sent out shortly-

Troop 133,
There has been some confusion about when the next PLC, committee and board of reviews would take place. This is the official announcement. They will take place at the regular times on December 11th at the USR library.
For those who been asking, the grab bag gift should be AT MOST $10.00. A small toy or camping item works just fine. Also, another reminder that we will be collecting food, coats and new toys.
Here is the list Troop 133 Leadership Positions 11-2008 of scout and adult leaders for Troop 133. If an entry is incorrect please let Mr. Errico know. The most up to date list will be available in the forms section of our site.
If you have corrections please email them to Assitant Scoutmaster Errico: cquality@optonline.net
Once again, it is that time of year to re-register for Boy Scouts. Our Charter expires at the end of January so I would like to have all the completed forms back to me by December 15th. This gives me enough time to complete the Charter and submit to Council. Click here to download the registration form. All fees have remained the same: $70.00 per one scout/$85.00 for families of two or more scouts. Please make checks payable to “BS Troop 133” and send to me at 147 Fawn Hill Road, USR N.J. 07458. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Our next troop meeting will be our annual holiday party. In the spirit of the season, we collect all those unwanted or unused coats that are sitting in your closet to help keep someone in need warm this winter. We will also collect cans and imperishable food for those in need. We would also like to ask that everyone bring one new unwrapped toy for those children that don’t have anything to look forward to. Peter Repetto, the troop SPL, will be sending you information on the $10 value grab bag that we have. See everyone on December 1st at Bogert starting at 7:30 PM.
We will be conducting the future Boards of Review concurrent with the SPL/Committee meetings monthly. The next dates are: Jan 8, February 5, March 5, April 9, May 7 and June 4.
Please notify me in advance if you would like to schedule a review.
Reminder! All Scouts currently holding Leadership positions must update their Troop 133 Activity Log on an ongoing basis. Scouts will be required to present their Activity log when presenting themselves for a Scoutmasters Conference / Board of Review. There is a sample log posted in the Troop 133 Forms section of our website.
Dylan Myers is taking on the leadership position of scout uniform director. He is in charge of the class B shirts and also the class A uniform exchange. The class A uniform exchange program is for scouts who who donate uniforms or exchange their uniforms for a larger or smaller size. This can help save Scouts money. Donations of uniforms you have grown out of help your fellow scouts. Dylan will collect uniforms at Troop meetings. After he organizes the uniforms he will be posting availability on this web site usrscouts.com.
The link below contains it info about the Merit Badge Fair on October 22nd. When we have detailed information on the Merit Badge offerings, we will send an email along with registration forms. Please mark your calendars with the date and email mjking5@optonline.net if you are interested in participating.
As your new Senior Patrol Leader, I would like to welcome everyone back from summer vacation and I hope everyone had a great summer. As the school year is now underway, our scout year is also upon us. Our first troop meeting will be on Monday, September 11th at 7:30 p.m. at the Bogert Gym . The theme for our meeting will be “Burger Bash”. We will discuss the patrol method and all scouts will actually cook hamburgers and hotdogs for their patrol. We will also be having a contest for the best hotdog and best hamburger.
For this meeting to be successful, I will need each patrol to bring its own patrol box. Patrol Leaders should make sure that your patrol box has a lantern (check batteries), a portable stove and sufficient propane. Each patrol is responsible for its own hamburgers, hotdogs, buns and secret ingredients.
All patrol leaders: please RSVP directly to me by Friday, September 8th.
Thank you. Looking forward to seeing you all next Monday evening.
Our Fall Court of Honor and Clam Bake is next weekend, Saturday,
September 16th and 17th! Please drop forms and payment in an
envelope in our mailbox or give to Matt Koski at this coming Monday’s
Troop meeting!
We still need some help with this event, so if you’re interested in
lending a hand, please let me know! Thank you to all of those who
have already offered their assistance—it is VERY much appreciated!

Anyone requesting a Board of Review later than one week prior to the Troop Meeting, will be scheduled for their Board of Review at the following month’s Troop meeting.
Please contact Mr. Kastner for your scoutmaster’s conference if you are advancing to Star, Life or Eagle. If you are advancing to Tenderfoot, Second Class or First Class. Contact your Parent Patrol Advisor for your Scout Master conference.

This course is excellent leadership training and a high adventure activity for a patrol sized group of scouts who will form an “ad hoc” patrol and be challenged by fun tasks
For more information see the web site for COPE on the NNJC website under Camping or give me a call.
Our annual Family Barbecue and Clambake is just a couple of weeks away! The event will be held on September 16 and 17 at Campgaw Reservation. We will serve lobsters and chicken followed by a Court of Honor, campfire, and overnight camping. Watch for Sign-up forms!
Troop 133 has volunteered to cook for USR day again this year. We need all of our scout families to help. If we all work together we can help make USR day great! This qualifies as community service towards your rank advancement. We would like to see each scout volunteer to work on this day. We need people to volunteer for the following shifts:
10:00 am-12:00 noon – set up (tables/chairs, cooking area, food prep). This includes husking corn, cutting vegetables and setting up grills, tables, tarps, etc. The food preparation/ corn husking is ideal for our younger scouts.
2:00 pm – 7:00 pm – cooking/serving/busing tables (1 hour shifts). Generally our older scouts will be the cooks, the younger scouts will bring the food to the serving area and bus the tables.
7:00 pm – clean up (cooking area and tables/chairs). There are Pots and Pans to wash, food to pack up and garbage to dispose of. All of our equipment also must be brought back to the scout shed.
I also need several parents to volunteer to help with each shift. Please let me know which shift fits into your schedule.
Please contact Georgene Sibbald at gsibbald@descap.com to sign up. Home phone 201-818-4152 (I can be reached after 7pm) Please indicate the specific time(s) you are available.
THANKS in advance for participating.
